“U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was back at work on Tuesday after being carjacked the night before by three armed attackers less than a mile from the Capitol,” AP reports. “Cuellar said he was ‘good’ and even joked about the frightening experience. He said the robbers ‘came out of nowhere, and they pointed guns at me.’”
The reaction by some gun owners, noting Cuellar is a Democrat, was one of amusement over perceived karma mixed with “serves him right”/“mugged liberal” schadenfreude. They are, after all, the party of citizen disarmament that fought tooth and nail to keep the District gun ban in place and to torpedo concealed carry wherever they can.
In Cuellar’s case, many were surprised to learn he was given an “A” rating by the National Rifle Association in 2018:
“The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed Henry Cuellar for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 28th Congressional District of Texas. Henry has a proven pro-Second Amendment record and is committed to protecting our right to self-defense! … Please vote Henry Cuellar for U.S. House of Representatives on or before Tuesday, November 6th, and please encourage your friends and family to do the same!”
Meanwhile, true to form, the National Shooting Sports Foundation gave the guy plenty of cover with the Fudds.
It’s true, per Vote Smart, that Cuellar voted “against banning “assault weapons,” and for repealing concealed carry reciprocity, veteran protection, and “repealing portions of the DC firearm ban.” But then he voted for “extreme risk protection orders,” “enhanced background checks,” and the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.”
And undoing any good he may have done in the past, he proved it was the Democrat Party über alles by endorsing Joe Biden for president:
“[N]ow, more than ever, American families and businesses are looking for measured, principled leadership in the White House. I’m proud to endorse Joe Biden for President because I am confident he is that leader we need. Joe has a track record tailor-made for the crisis we face … I watched Joe win the Democratic primary here in Texas. Now I’m excited to help him turn the Lone Star State blue and win Texas in November.”
Cuellar owns his portion of Biden’s new “Office of Gun Violence Prevention,” and of all infringement and citizen disarmament “rules” and cases of lawfare the administration and Democrats empowered across the land are attempting to impose on their countrymen by force and fraud. And bipolarity on guns is not his only cognitively dissonant political stance.
While bragging about “understand[ing] the importance of protecting our nation” with border security on the one hand, on the other, he’s bolstering incentives for more illegal alien surges by promoting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and “[l]egislation to provide a route to citizenship for Dreamers.” That falls right into Chuck Schumer’s plot to bulldoze “a path to citizenship for all 11 million, or however many undocumented, there are here.” [Empasis added]
It’s well documented by real-world experience and all credible polls that this will overwhelmingly favor Democrats, who will then be able to pass whatever anti-gun edicts they want while confirming judges who will back them up (ultimately resulting in a repopulated Supreme Court hostile to Bruen). The hollow “single issue” excuse our ostensible “gun rights leaders” have relied on to avoid grading the political impacts of immigration votes on the right to keep and bear arms is stretching increasingly thin.
The other thing well documented is all the betrayals of the NRA by every prominent Democrat they’ve ever backed. Just a few examples in no particular order going back over the years:
- Thomas Foley, Dave McCurdy, Lee H. Hamilton, John Dingell, Jack Brooks
- Max Baucus and Jon Tester
- Harry Reid
- Chris Coster
- Joe Manchin
- Kirsten Gillibrand
We could go on, but the point is made. And while it’s stipulated there are plenty of gutless, backstabbing Republican “moderates,” and even some outright enemies inside the gates, there are no Democrats who can be trusted to put the right of the people to keep and bear arms first.
Sure, there’s no shortage of “pro-gun Democrats” — up to a point. But then again, it’s not about guns. It’s about freedom.
